gifts of stock or ira distribution
Give Appreciated Stocks, Bonds, or Mutual Funds
Gifts of appreciated securities are another popular form of gift and often provide a donor with the opportunity to avoid capital gains tax while also providing a charitable deduction for the fair market value of the donation.
Please contact Executive Director Carmen Lorentz for more information at [email protected] or 603-524-0747 x110.
We recommend that you consult your professional advisor to make sure these options are right for your financial situation.
Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from an IRA
If you are 73 or older, you can help satisfy your IRA’s annual Required Minimum Distribution by having your custodian send gifts to Lakes Region Community Developers directly from your retirement accounts.

REMEMBER LRCD IN YOUR ESTATE PLANNING
Remember LRCD in Your Will or Trust
The simplest and most common way to include Lakes Region Community Developers in your estate planning is to make a charitable provision in your will or trust.
This kind of charitable bequest can take several forms. It can be a designated dollar amount, a percentage of the estate, or “the residual” – that is, the amount remaining in the estate after all other obligations and payments have been made.
If you are interested in leaving a gift to Lakes Region Community Developers in your will or trust, please make sure to speak with your attorney. We encourage you to provide your attorney with this sample language:
“I hereby give and bequeath __________________ (dollar amount, percentage of my estate, or residual of my estate after other bequests) to Laconia Area Community Land Trust, Inc dba Lakes Region Community Developers, 193 Court Street, Laconia, New Hampshire, 03246, for its general purposes.”
Naming LRCD the Beneficiary of Your IRA or Other Retirement Funds
Retirement funds are a great asset to leave to charity, because – unlike your heirs – charitable beneficiaries do not have to pay any income taxes for receiving those funds. Leaving IRAs and other retirement assets to charity is quick and easy – you can simply notify the custodian of your retirement funds that you want all or part of a particular fund to pass to the designated charity or charities.
Naming LRCD the End Beneficiary of Your Donor-Advised Fund
Some of our donors have created donor-advised funds (DAFs) to manage their charitable giving. Donors have the ability to tell their DAF sponsor now where to distribute the assets in their donor-advised funds if funds remain after the end of their lives. Please consider including LRCD as a beneficiary in your DAF.
Naming LRCD the Beneficiary of Your Insurance Policy
If you have a fully-paid life insurance policy and you and your family no longer need the benefit, you could consider naming LRCD the full or partial beneficiary. There is no cost involved in setting this up; you can simply contact your insurance carrier to update your policy beneficiaries.

PURCHASE BUSINESS TAX CREDITS
Community Development Investment Program
These tax credits for NH businesses are administered by New Hampshire Community Development Finance Authority (CDFA). They review many project applications each year and awards tax credits to those that will make the biggest impact on economic development in New Hampshire. LRCD often has tax credits available for sale to support its projects.
Any business with operations in NH that contributes to a CDFA tax credit project receives a NH state tax credit worth 75% of their contribution. The credit can be used over a period of five years to reduce the business’ state tax liability (business profits, business enterprise, or insurance premium taxes). In addition, the contribution may be treated as a charitable donation for federal tax purposes.
CDFA’s tax credit program is a great way for NH businesses to use their state tax dollars to support local projects that they care about.
