Changing Lives Award

Picture
We presented Leo Sanfacon with the “Changing Lives” Award at our 25th anniversary celebration on April 12th in recognition of the positive impact that he has made on the lives of thousands of children and families in the Lakes Region.

The “Changing Lives” award recognizes someone whose contributions to the Lakes Region community reflect the mission and values of our organization. We created the award last year to honor the tireless efforts of our founding executive director, Linda Harvey, to ensure that everyone in our community has the opportunity to be successful.

Linda was on hand to present the award to Leo. She read off a long list of the organizations that he has been involved with over more than 20 years, including Lakes Region Community Developers, the Youth Services Bureau and Teen Court program; the Belknap Juvenile Justice Initiative and Restorative Justice program where he served as a jurist, mentor and advisory leader; CASA; the Belknap County Teen Center which ultimately became the Boys & Girls Club; the Gilford Youth Center; the Gilford Library; St. Vincent De Paul’s financial counseling program; and Leadership Lakes Region.

When Linda presented Leo with the award, she recounted how his passion for kids and families was heightened during his participation in the first class of Leadership Lakes Region in 1998, of which they were both graduates. Linda said, “Leo has had an amazing impact by quietly and remarkably stepping up to make sure that our community provides opportunities for every family to thrive.”

Thank you, Leo, for all you have done for this community. We are forever grateful.

Anniversary Celebration

Thank you to everyone who joined us on April 12th to celebrate 25 years of building healthy homes in the Lakes Region!

2017 Impact Report

We are proud to provide healthy homes for the Lakes Region. Healthy homes are safe, affordable, energy-efficient, and offer good air quality. Healthy homes are the foundation of a healthy community. They ensure that kids do better in school, so parents can focus on work, so our businesses and communities can thrive. Last year, we provided healthy homes for 320 families. Our residents worked at 125 different local businesses.

Green Tip - Earth Month

As a NeighborWorks America Green Designated Organization we have incorporated green  practices across all lines of business. As an organization it is important to us that we remain steadfast stewards of our precious resources and inspire our neighbors to see the value and ease of incorporating green practices into their lives. We hope you enjoy our monthly Green Tip.
This April 22nd marks the 48th annual Earth Day celebration! Making changes towards sustainability can feel daunting at times, however, small drops really do make a mighty ocean.

So for today, and every day, here a few easy changes you can make for this lovely planet we call home.
  1. Get rid of junk mail
  2. Change lightbulbs - Switching to a compact florescent or LED bulb will lower your energy costs and consumption all while saving you money!
  3. Recycle
  4. Use reusable water bottles/coffee cups/shopping bags
  5. Wash laundry with cold water - not only is washing in cold water way better for your clothes and their colors, but it saves a TON of energy!
  6. DIY - Here are some ideas for things you can DIY instead of buy! One of our favorites (and a great money and earth saver) is making your own cleaning supplies.
  7. Eat/shop local - There are a ton of great reasons why you should eat locally grown food. One of the many reasons is that buying local reduces the environmental impact of products by reducing the distance they have to travel to reach your plate.
  8. Plant these (flowers and plants) to  help save bees - There are a whole lot of reasons why we need bees! The bee population is declining due to a variety of environmental issues. While we can’t all be apiarists, we can do our part to help them thrive. Click here to see some plants that can help bees thrive!
